Ceasefire in Kashmir

The Indian government has finally instructed its forces to halt military operations in Kashmir and observe a ceasefire during the month of Ramazan, which is a welcome development. A unilateral ceasefire was previously announced during the Vajpayee government in 2000, but it was short-lived.

Power, projects and promises

Finally, the 969-MW Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (NJHEP), which is one of the largest public sector power projects in Pakistan, has begun supplying electricity to the national grid. The run-of-the-river project located in the picturesque Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 200 kilometres northeast of Islamabad, has been built by a Chinese company. Amazingly, 90 per cent of 68 kilometre long tunnels have been constructed underground in the mountainous region which is considered a wonder of engineering.

CPDR launches "Tales of Separation and Reunion" by Qaiser Khan

Signs of permanent alienation; a case of Kashmiri youth

A total of 14 Kashmiris have been killed in past one week on the Line of Control (LoC) and Kashmir Valley. An unprecedented upsurge in violence has been witnessed in last two years where hundreds of youth have joined the militant ranks. According to reports of Jammu and Kashmir police, 363 militants, majority of them Kashmiris are active in the valley and this is the highest number in last ten years.

Kashmiris petition Pak, India PMs to cease fire, hold talks

ISLAMABAD: As body bags are collected almost on a daily basis on both sides of the Line of Control, with no chance of return of 2003 ceasefire agreement, over 130 eminent citizens of the divided State of Jammu and Kashmir have through a calling attention petition urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to cease fire along the LoC and talk out the Kashmir issue by including all the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
